Check out our latest testimony on hate crimes
We’re back at the DC Council’s Judiciary Committee today, testifying about the impact of hate crimes on trans communities in DC, and discussing police response to those crimes. A few highlights:
- We note that hate crimes against trans people usually go unsolved, and call for fixing that;
- We demand an end to police violence against trans people, and real accountability when such violence occurs;
- We point out that our ongoing needs assessment project has found that trans folks in DC are primarily concerned about their safety; and
- We call for greater support for victims of hate crimes, including community-wide restorative justice programs.
The hearing is from 10:00am – noon today at the Wilson Building in the Council Chamber. You can read our full testimony here!
