Transgender people in DC won clear protections against discrimination.

In December 2005, due to the work of transgender residents and workers together with our community allies, the DC City Council unanimously approved the Human Rights Clarification Act.

The new law—which went into effect March 8, 2006—puts employers, landlords, city agencies and public accommodations on notice that discrimination on the basis of gender identity or expression is illegal in the District.
